Integrated Foot Health Advice & Staff Training for Care Homes in the UK

Effective resident foot health doesn’t stop when the podiatrist leaves. At L&R Care Home Podiatry UK, we believe in a collaborative approach. Our HCPC-registered Podiatrists actively include your staff in all ongoing foot care recommendations, ensuring seamless transition of professional advice into daily resident care across the UK.

The Value of Collaborative Care

1. Seamless Staff Inclusion in RecommendationsOur podiatrists ensure your staff are included in any recommendations for ongoing foot care. This direct communication method guarantees that specific daily needs (e.g., proper washing, moisturising, and monitoring specific areas) are understood and applied correctly.
2. Improved Daily Monitoring SkillsWe advise your staff to recognise key risk indicators, empowering them to identify issues such as early infection, pressure sores, or sudden changes in a resident’s foot condition between our visits. Particularly in your medium- to high-risk residents, thereby reducing the risk of escalation.
3. Clear, Actionable Advice (Not Just Theory)

Advice is practical, resident-specific, and easy to implement. Recommendations cover correct footwear fitting, hygiene, cream application and potential issues that may arise.

Compliance and Clinical Governance Benefits

Training helps show CQC inspectors evidence of ongoing professional engagement and staff training/advice integration.

Consistency of Care:  Our standardised recommendations ensure all shifts provide the same high level of foot maintenance.

Reduced Risk Events: Highly trained staff prevent small issues from becoming major incidents requiring hospital trips.

Improved Record Keeping: Residents notes will be sent to the care home within a reasonable time of the visit.

What topics are covered in the integrated staff training sessions?

If a care home would like us to provide general advice on what to look for in residents’ feet to help them catch problems before they escalate, we can arrange that. We can also offer basic exercises to improve residents’ foot strength and balance.

Any training a care home may request would usually be generic. However, if there is specific advice for a particular patient, this would be highlighted in the patient’s unique foot care plan and communicated to a member of the care staff.

The care home will have received copies of each resident’s treatment that can then be reviewed by new staff. If they require further advice, then all the care home needs to do is get in touch with us.

Any training or advice we can offer is generally communicated during each visit; however, if the care home would prefer more specific advice or training, they can contact us to discuss their needs.

How is our podiatrist's advice communicated to care staff to ensure a seamless transition into daily care?

Any advice will be included within the patient’s foot care plan and/or advice section, which are shared with the care homes after our visits.

Training and advice help demonstrate to CQC inspectors evidence of ongoing professional engagement and of the integration of staff training/advice. You are also ensuring that you put plans of action in place to monitor residents’ health and take proactive measures to promote foot health and prevent conditions before they become more serious.

Proactive podiatric care reduces the risk of falls and can help detect issues before they become more serious. We will also work with you to maintain mobility, a core part of keeping residents active and reducing the need for hospital visits and advanced medical interventions. This reduces the need for additional visits to your care home or for residents to visit the hospital.
